Wise Ink’s Bookish Holiday Gift Giving Guide

  • Buffer

We’re into that time of year again—last minute holiday shopping! Lucky for you, we’re obsessed with book-themed gifts, so we’ve come up with a pretty solid guide. No matter who you’re shopping for, we’ve (theoretically) got something that they’ll love.

Of course, this wouldn’t be a bookish gift giving guide if it didn’t contain books. So we’ll start with our own personal choices of books to give.

Dara: Untethered Soul by Michael Singer.

“It’s life-changing; it puts in perspective what’s most important in life. It focuses on how to be one with the universe, how to have a soul that is untethered. It is so good. Just so good.”

Amy: Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff.

“An insightful and investigative novel about marriage, relationships, and what makes us who we are. Groff’s prose is lush, poetic, and almost flowery while still fast-paced. It’s overall just a beautiful book.”

Laura: Bone Gap by Laura Ruby.

“It’s one of those hauntingly beautiful books that anyone can read and enjoy, and it expands your idea of what books can be without being over ambitious and self-aware.”

Patrick: Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert.

“I would recommend sending it to any creative person in your life who maybe needs a little kick in the pants.”

Savannah: A Constellation of Vital Phenomena by Anthony Marra.

“It will hit you in all the feels and completely change your outlook on the world. Not only is the story completely captivating, but it also has the best ending I’ve ever read.”

Obviously, we would also all recommend any of the books written by our wonderful authors (and no, we are not contractually obligated to say that), but we couldn’t possibly choose only five to showcase.

Now, say you have a giftee that is the kind of person who buys all the books the she wants without giving anyone proper time to gift one (this definitely is not in reference to ourselves . . . ) – what do you get for her? In this case, we recommend one of three things:

Accessorizing.

Screen Shot 2015-12-10 at 12.34.31 PMWho could refuse a little daily Vonnegut? This “So it goes” necklace is on our wish list for sure.

Have a friend who is notorious for cold feet? You can’t go wrong with some literary socks.

How about someone who could use a cute tote to carry around all the books she’s constantly toting (get it??) around? There are so many options!

Tech it out.

For the reader constantly on the move, go the obvious route: enable him to read on the go with a Kindle.

How about a friend prone to road trips? You can’t go wrong with an Audible subscription.

And for the somewhat lazy bedtime reader: an over-the-bed light that doubles as a bookshelf.

Decorate.

For the book lover who is also a timepiece addict, go for this fun wall clock or make your own as a gift.

Is there a tea-drinking grammarian in your life? Why not add to his mug collection with these endearingly-naggy cup and saucer pairs?

theiy'reThere is nothing the homebody romantic wants more in her life than to curl up with a good book. Add a comfy touch of literary décor with these great pillows.

And finally, for that priceless friend who enables you to put off getting your own library card because she loans books out constantly: this personal library kit and book embosser. Nothing will be more satisfying for that friend than lovingly stamping each book and living out the dream of being a real librarian.

How about you, readers? Do you have a bookish wishlist item that you’d like to share? We’d love to hear about it!
